What do you always get asked?
I often get asked about what local spots I can recommend as a born and bred Aucklander, my go to answers are, Little Shoal Bay in Birkenhead as it has amazing views of the Harbour Bridge and city, and a great bush walk, and Mt Hobson in Newmarket.
What is your favourite thing to do in Auckland?
I am an avid fisher, and highly recommend booking on to a shared or private charter to get out onto the water in Auckland. Half-Moon bay and Pier Z are great starting points for a fun day out.
Where can I get the best coffee?
The Federal Deli is the place to go for perfect, bottomless filtered coffee, otherwise, Chur Bae at the City Works Depot and Chuffed on High Street are tough places to beat. Outside the City Centre 55 Café & ATOMIC Roasters are worth the trip.
Describe the perfect day in Auckland City?
As a food & wine enthusiast, nothing beats a walk through Britomart & The Viaduct, going to Soul Bar for a long lunch, enjoying the people watching, then to QT Rooftop bar for evening cocktails as the sun sets. From there, venture up to K road to visit Apero and Bar Celeste for some wine & tapas, settling in at Atelier for dinner, then to Fitzroy in Ponsonby for a little boogie to finish the night.
What restaurants are popular at the moment?
The Sugar Club & The Federal Depot are always at the top of the list for our guests, as well as come recent additions to the Auckland culinary scene Ahi, Kingi, Mr Morris.
Worth the trip:
While staying at The Grand, I recommend venturing out to see all that Auckland has to offer, The Muriwai Gannet Colony is a great drive and the perfect spot for a sunset picnic, enjoying the rugged landscape & beachy views. Waiheke, Long Bay Beach and Clevedon are also must visits.
